Lincoln, NE (May 21, 2021) – Authorities have identified two victims of a crash that occurred on Wednesday, leaving one man dead and a woman seriously injured.
According to reports released by the Lincoln Police Department, 24-year-old David J. McClain and his mother, 44-year-old Kristie L. Jones, were traveling westbound on Cornhusker Highway when their SUV was struck by a Mack truck loaded with 95,000 pounds of material. The incident happened at the intersection of North 70th Street and Cornhusker.
Reports said it was unclear if the SUV intended to go straight through the intersection or turn right. McClain, who was driving the vehicle, was pronounced dead at the scene, while Jones was transported to an area medical center via ambulance and is currently in critical condition. Police did not say if the truck driver sustained injuries in the wreck.
Officials are still investigating the cause of the collision and do not suspect drugs or alcohol to have been a factor.
We would like to offer our deepest condolences to the family of David J. McClain. Our thoughts are with Kristie L. Jones and any other injured victims in hopes of a full recovery.
Fatal Car Accidents in Lincoln, Nebraska
Each year, tens of thousands of people lose their lives in motor vehicle accidents throughout the United States. In Nebraska, we see our fair share of devastating accidents take the lives of innocent victims. Although there are various ways that drivers can protect others when they are out traveling, there is no guarantee that other motorists are going to provide them with the same kindness and courtesy. As a result, numerous people lose their lives. Fatal accidents often leave families to deal with unbearable mental and emotional pain. Knowing that a loved one died in a preventable accident is one of the most challenging things to accept.
Furthermore, families are often required to spend tens of thousands of dollars on unexpected funeral costs and other financial burdens resulting from the loss of a loved one. Although there is no amount of compensation that can ever take away the pain and suffering families are forced to endure, having the resources available after a tragic accident can help families cover the financial burdens they face moving forward. When victims are killed in auto accidents, their families should contact a wrongful death attorney in Nebraska to see what legal options are available to them.
