Bellevue, NE – John Holcomb Struck & Killed on John F. Kennedy Fwy (US-75)

Bellevue, NE (July 30, 2020) – A pedestrian accident in the Bellevue area claimed one man’s life on Thursday afternoon. Just after 1:30 p.m., on July 30, the Omaha Fire Department responded to the scene of a motor vehicle accident on John F. Kennedy Freeway.

Reports provided by authorities show that 70-year-old John Holcomb, a volunteer with the motorist assist program, was clearing debris from the side of the freeway, just north of Chandler Road, when he was struck by a vehicle. Holcomb was ejected from the roadway and flew approximately 20-feet and landed in a ditch. Holcomb was discovered unconscious at the site of the crash. Crews immediately began administering life-saving measures to the injured man but were unsuccessful. Holcomb was declared deceased at the scene. Firefighters closed off the road and began investigating the crash.

We would like to extend our deepest condolences to the family of Mr. John Holcomb. Our thoughts are with them at this time.

Fatal Pedestrian Accidents in Nebraska

Bellevue, NE – John Holcomb Struck & Killed on John F. Kennedy Fwy (US-75)Every year, thousands of people in our state are involved in motor vehicle accidents. In many cases, victims sustain life-altering injuries that require extensive and costly medical treatment. Although we want to think that everyone makes it out of collisions alive, this is far from the truth. More than 215 people lose their lives in auto accidents across Nebraska each year. Pedestrian accidents account for approximately 10% of traffic-related fatalities.

These accidents leave families to deal with overwhelming mental, emotional, and financial consequences after losing their loved ones unexpectedly. As if that were not enough, families are often required to spend tens of thousands of dollars on unexpected funeral costs and other financial burdens resulting from the loss of a loved one. Although there is no amount of compensation that can ever take away the pain and suffering families are forced to endure, having the resources available after a tragic accident can help families cover the financial burdens they face moving forward.
