Fort Calhoun, NE (March 16, 2021) – One man has lost his life as a result of a fire incident in the Fort Calhoun area on Wednesday. On March 10, emergency crews were called to the site of a fire incident.
Reports from authorities show that a brush fire broke out just east of Fort Calhoun in Washington County. 77-year-old Dennis Bender, a firefighter with the Ponce Hills Volunteer Fire Department, responded with his crews to battle the blaze.
For unknown reasons, Bender was fatally injured while battling the blaze. At this time, the incident remains under investigation.
